US initial jobless claims rose to two-month high

The Labor Department data showed today number of applications for unemployment benefits in the US climbed last week to a two-month high.

The initial jobless claims rose 11,000 to 276,000 in the week ended March 26, the highest since the end of January. Markets were expecting a figure of 265,000. Nevertheless, jobless claims have stayed below 300K mark for 56 consecutive week.

The four-week moving average of claims, a less volatile measure than the weekly figures, increased to 263,250 from 259,750.
