Canada CPI rises 0.8% year-on-year in April

FXStreet (Mumbai) - The data released by Statistics Canada on Friday showed the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.8% year-on-year April, after increasing 1.2% in March. This was the smallest increase since October 2013.

Excluding energy, the CPI or the core CPI increased 2.2% on a year-over-year basis in April, following a 2.3% increase the previous month.

The year-on-year slowdown in CPI was mainly due to energy index, which decreased 13.5% year-on-year April, following a 10.4% year-over-year decline in March.
