Eurozone retail sales rise 3.7% year-on-year

FXStreet (Mumbai) - According to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, the seasonally adjusted volume of retail sales came-in at 3.7% year-on-year in January, beating the estimate of a 2.3% gain, and up from the December’s upwardly revised 3.1%.

The sharp rise was mainly on account of a 6.1% rise in automotive fuel, 5.00% in non-food sector, and 2.2% in Food, Drinks and Tobacco. Meanwhile, month-on-month retail sales came-in at 1.1% in January, beating the estimate of a 0.2% rise, and up from the upwardly revised 0.4% in December.
